Herbert Mensah should apologize to President Mills if – Kwesi Aning

Head of the Conflict Prevention, Management and Resolution Department at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), Dr Kwesi Aning has urged former Asante Kotoko Chairman, Herbert Mensah to immediately apologize to the President if he cannot provide any evidence to substantiate his claim that President Mills intends spending GHC90 million on his flag bearer campaign.

Dr. Kwesi Aning said an allegation of such magnitude is of national interest since it poses a threat to the economy, and called on Mr. Mensah, who is a close associate to Rawlingses, to do the appropriate thing by providing evidence or apologise if he cannot do so.

On Tuesday, Herbert Mensah raised the ire of NDC supporters and government officials when he alleged on Adom FM that President Mills campaign team planned on spending GHC 90 million for his campaign to be flag bearer of the NDC. He said he got the information from security tapes he and former President rawlings accessed from the Castle.

There have been calls for his arrest while President Mills on Wednesday called on National Security to investigate the claims. National Security has already stated its interest in looking into the matter.

But speaking on Dwaso Nsem on Adom FM on Thursday, Dr. Aning described the allegation as one of those verbal errors that politicians sometimes make to gain trust from people.

He noted that Ghanaian politicians have unfortunately not cultivated the habit of apologizing whenever they make unfounded statements.

The security expert explained that the Office of the President must be duly respected and dignified so that the President can work with a sound mind adding that comments like this can make the President feel insecure.
